BARBARA CULLIMORE, MBE
Saturday 23 March 2019

Many of you will share our sadness to learn of the death of Barbara Cullimore MBE at the age of 94. Barbara joined the newly formed Chiltern Antiques Group – the founding society of NADFAS -  in 1967. In 2012, she was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of her outstanding service as a Heritage Volunteer for over 40 years. During this time, she worked on a number of projects of national importance, such as cleaning books in the library of St. George’s Chapel after the fire at Windsor Castle. Barbara found one of the country’s earliest passports, dated 1649, while archiving at Dorney Court. She also worked in textile conservation, helping to restore Henry VIII’s bedspread at the Treasurer’s House in York and repairing Disraeli’s cloak at Hughenden Manor. Barbara’s group at The Arts Society Chiltern had just finished a remarkable 2780 hours of archiving 5000 books at Chequers – a project which took four years.

We will treasure many happy memories of Barbara and are proud of all her sterling work for Heritage Volunteers.
